US-UK Trade and Investment Working Group host second meeting
Last week the UK Secretary for International Trade, Dr Liam Fox, and United States Trade Representative, Robert Lighthizer, concluded the second meeting of the Working Group in London.
Established in July 2017, the focus has been on providing commercial continuity for businesses, workers and consumers. As our single biggest trading partner, establishing this dialogue and deep economic relationship hopes to deliver certainty and confidence.
Robert Lighthizer said: “This week our teams focused on specific ways in which we can expand opportunities for our businesses and workers, including small and medium sized enterprises.”

Digital Trade Seminar in Geneva
Last week Dr Liam Fox travelled to Geneva, home of the World Trade Organization (WTO), for a digital trade seminar. The seminar explored the rising influence of digital trade on the global economy and how best to shape and modernise global trading rules and standards to allow for the development of new technology.
Ecommerce remains a key driver for economic growth and supporting access for all countries will benefit a global trading system. The seminar discussed how to create more access for SMEs to ecommerce solutions and opportunities to interact with a wider network of consumers in the global market.
Dr Fox met with a number of ambassadors from the WTO and his visit signalled the UK’s continued interest and commitment to ensuring a substantive positive outcome on digital trade at the upcoming WTO Ministerial Conference scheduled for December.
