UK trade deficit at seven-month low | Europe | 2014 for exporters

Britain’s trade deficit narrows to seven-month low in October

The Office for National Statistics has announced that the UK’s trade deficit in goods and services dropped from £2.8 billion in September to £2 billion at the beginning of November – the lowest since March this year. Exports rose by £200 million from September to November to £24.3 billion. The types of products exported included ‘erratic items’ such as silver.

Moving forward, the upcoming ECB (European Central Bank) stimulus is in a strong position to help economic growth pick up in the Eurozone in 2015, which would further boost demand for UK exports for the next year.

Energise your trade with Europe

We’ve highlighted the opportunities which trading with Europe can provide – but given that Europe is home to approximately 50 countries (32 of which are EU and EFTA members), it can be challenging to maintain a clear oversight.

To make understanding the region more straightforward, we have provided an overview of Europe’s economies in key blocs. So if you’re concerned about confusing your Balkans with your Baltics, or aren’t quite sure what countries are included in UKTI’s ‘High Growth Europe’ region, just read our overview to find out where you can take your business.

A promising year for British exporters – 2014 in review

2014 has been an incredibly exciting year for British companies. Britain’s economy is finally stronger than before the recession, with better growth than any other G7 economy. The UK was also ranked highly in terms of criteria such as technology readiness, connectedness and entrepreneurialism, and both emerging and advanced markets continue to offer a wide range of international trade opportunities for British businesses.

Still, we can do even better for 2015. While the British government will offer additional support to exporters, it’s also important for businesspeople to see and seize the opportunities. DHL Express will continue to lead the export conversation and provide practical advice and support through our digital and social media channels.
