UK SMEs export £78bn | Germany trade powerhouse | Tea Palace wins global exposure

More than 1.5 million UK small businesses now export worldwide
Research from international payments platform, WorldFirst, has revealed that more than 1.5 million of the UK’s small businesses are now involved in worldwide trading. Their estimates suggest the combined value of UK exporting now stands at £78 billion every month, with Western Europe remaining the most significant trading partner.
London was home to the highest percentage of exporters, followed by the East Midlands and Yorkshire & Humber. The UK’s top sectors for international trade were in medical and health, manufacturing, transportation and distribution.
Jonathan Quin, co-founder and CEO at WorldFirst, said: “our research shows that over 1.5 million SMEs are trading more than £78bn a month across international borders. This is a significant contribution to the UK economy.”

Germany powers ahead with best ever trade figures in March
According to the Federal Statistical Office, the seasonally adjusted value of exports rose to €91.8 billion in March and imports to €78.1 billion, both the highest figures on record, (seasonal adjustment is a statistical technique designed to remove seasonal variations in data).
Ulrich Rondorf, an analyst at Commerzbank, said: “the competitive German economy is profiting from the revival of global trade after a soft patch at the end of 2011.” The data showed that exports to non-EU countries jumped 11.2 per cent in the first quarter but rose only 2.3 per cent to the European Union.
