Smartphones drive UK online retail sales

UK e-commerce retail sales are expected to exceed £67 billion in 2016, with mobile commerce accounting for £25.2 billion.

63 per cent of total m-commerce sales take place via tablet devices, whilst smartphones account for 36.4 per cent. This is likely to grow to 52 per cent by 2020.

These latest numbers show that smartphones are now increasingly driving digital sales. Getting the smartphone sales experience right is becoming more vital than ever,” said Bill Fisher, Senior Analyst at eMarketer.

Digital shoppers in China buy more foreign goods

Cross-border e-commerce in China is expected to reach $85.76 billion in 2016.

40 per cent of the country’s online consumers purchase foreign goods. “The demand for foreign goods via the cross-border e-commerce channel is still expected to remain strong due to better prices compared to offline retailers, perceived quality and better variety,” said eMarketer Analyst Shelleen Shum.

It is estimated that more than a quarter of China’s population will buy online from overseas retailers by 2020.
