UK exporters optimistic about 2015 trade prospects

As part of UKTI’s Export Week in November, more than 400 British exporters were interviewed to share their thoughts on going global. The results show that Britain’s international traders are positive that conditions are set to further improve: 78 per cent of the surveyed business owners and managers believe that 2015 will be even better than 2014.

The most popular regions for expansion are Europe and North America, with 59 per cent and 44 per cent of respondents planning to target these markets. While 34 per cent stated they specifically target markets with ‘cultural similarity to the UK’, most respondents emphasised that they choose target markets based on thorough research and analysis.

Push for trading with Poland

Poland, Europe’s sixth-largest economy, emerged extremely robust from the recession: in 2009, Poland was the only country in the EU to report GDP growth. This is partially because the Polish government decided to go against austerity, cutting taxes and funding public spending instead.

With a young and educated workforce combined with strong regional connections, Poland is set for future economic growth: GDP is expected to grow by 3.5 per cent this year and in 2015. Poland is already the UK’s ninth-largest export market, and connections between the countries are strong: in addition to a large Polish expat population in the UK, 300 flights a week connect the two countries.
