Consumer spending bolstered UK economic growth in Q4 2016
 
From October to December 2016, the UK economy grew by 0.6 per cent. Overall, the UK economy grew by 2 per cent in 2016.
 
According to ONS statistician Darren Morgan, this growth can be attributed to “strong consumer spending supporting the dominant services sector” and was further supported by the UK’s vibrant distribution, hotels, and restaurant industry. Manufacturing also “bounced back” from a slower performance during the third quarter.

WPI Economics recommends key UK free-trade deal partners
 
According to the Trade Prospects Index released by economics consultancy group WPI Economics, the UK should focus on pursuing bilateral free-trade deals with specific non-EU countries.
 
Deals with South Korea, the US, and Brazil would reportedly give the UK the greatest economic advantage, followed by agreements with China and Australia.
 
WPI Economics says that if the UK government follows this advice, the first non-EU bilateral trade deal could be in place by 2020.
