UK wine exports pour into overseas markets
Wine producers in the UK are capitalising on overseas demand by exploring exporting potential in new global markets. Overall sales of English wine increased by 31 per cent between 2015 and 2017. The industry is predicted to be producing 40 million bottles a year in 2040 with a retail value of £1 billion.
The Department for International Trade has supported many notable UK wine producers with filling glasses overseas. International Trade Secretary Dr Liam Fox MP said: “The potential for exports is going from strength to strength due to the rapid growth of the sector and an increased demand from overseas markets for high quality British wine.”See more
Demand in Asia for British cheese
As cheese exports reached a record £665 million in 2018, the UK is placed within the top 10 biggest exporters of cheese globally. Britain boasts one of the most successful cheese markets in the world, producing over 700 varieties. 47 countries worldwide import over £1 million worth of product with cheddar accounting for 48.1 per cent.
Seven of the top 10 fastest growing export markets for British cheese over the past five years were from countries in Asia, with exports to the continent growing by 289.3 per cent over the past five years.Read more
