UK exports continue to grow
According to the latest Office for National Statistics Balance of Payments data, exports were up by 6.4 per cent in the year to June 2018 with goods exports driven by a demand for high quality British manufacturing. The positive figures also revealed that the trade deficit narrowed by £14.4 billion.
The International Trade Secretary, Dr Liam Fox, said: “Today’s figures show that the demand from all over the world is continuing to increase for our high-quality goods and services. As we leave the EU, we look to further our trading ties with key overseas markets such as the USA, Japan and China where our exports have risen by 4.1 per cent, 7.4 per cent and 7.5 per cent respectively.”

Whitley Bay seaweed business experiences success overseas
Whitley Bay based brand Seaweed & Co. has found success abroad after experiencing strong global demand for their unique product.
Since starting to export three years ago, overseas sales now account for 15 per cent of their turnover. Products are being shipped as far as South Korea, Australia, Canada, Israel and the United States, as well as across the European Union.
Dr Craig Rose, Founder and CEO, Seaweed & Co., said: “Although exporting has been a huge boost to the business, it’s not without its challenges.” They worked with the Department of International Trade for support and guidance.
