UK businesses optimistic for brighter 2018
A recent report by accountant and business advisor BDO, has revealed that the UK business community is feeling optimistic after a Brexit breakthrough deal between Britain and the EU was secured at the end of last year. The report found that there has been an increase in the monthly Optimism Index which measures how businesses expect their order books to develop over the next six months. An increase in the Employment Index indicating hiring intentions was also reported.
Peter Hemington, partner at BDO, said UK business leaders were now more confident about the year ahead and were bolstering their recruitment efforts as a result.

UK manufacturing sees strongest growth since 2014
British manufacturing experienced month-on-month growth in the last three months of 2017. A UK survey found that British manufacturers saw growth in partly finished goods bought by other firms, as well as increasing demand for goods made in the UK by European manufacturers. Figures show 54 per cent of firms said they expected to increase production during 2018.
Mark Carney, the governor of the Bank of England, has previously said that the UK “doesn’t so much export to Europe [but] through Europe” as the supplier of components to final goods that are exported beyond the continent – a sign of the EU’s importance for British manufacturers.
