UK agrees new partnership with Association of Southeast Asian Nations

After submitting its application in 2020, the UK has become a Dialogue Partner with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The partnership will see a closer relationship between them on issues such as trade, investment, climate change, environmental, science, technology and education.

International Trade Secretary, Liz Truss, said: “Along with CPTPP accession and deals with countries like Singapore and Vietnam, this will help unlock opportunities for British businesses in a high-growth region of more than 650 million people, allowing them to expand and create jobs across the UK.”

Carbon footprint a mystery to 9 out of 10 small businesses

Research published by the British Chambers of Commerce, in partnership with O2, has found that the majority of small businesses do not yet have targets in place to reduce their emissions and become net zero, with just 11% of them currently measuring their carbon footprint.

The survey results show that whilst larger corporations are more likely to reduce their carbon use, the costs of doing so are preventing small and microbusinesses from taking action.

In response to their findings, the British Chambers of Commerce and O2 have launched a free online hub loaded with information, tools and support for businesses to become net zero.
