Qatar named natural trade partner for the UK
At an event in central London last week, Secretary of State for International Trade, Dr Liam Fox, named Qatar the UK’s ‘natural partner’ for trade. He has highlighted the increasing cooperation between the two countries and the importance of Qatari investment in the UK and how it has helped drive prosperity at home and abroad.
Speaking ahead of the event Dr Liam Fox said: “Today’s event will help forge greater economic ties and is testament to the importance that both the UK and Qatar place on our bilateral relationship.”See more
UK trainer exports run away
With a record number of runners applying to take part in last Sunday’s London Marathon, UK trainer exports have also been smashing records. Sales of trainers and sports footwear overseas saw a 21 per cent increase, reaching £392 million in 2018. The largest growth came in the Thai market, with exports growing by 1,157 per cent to £1.1million.
A spokesperson from UK exporter of specialist running shoes, Norman WALSH Footwear, said: “Currently we are exporting to Japan, China, Korea, Europe and we have just opened accounts in Kuwait. […] Our turnover has increased and approximately 60 per cent of our sales coming from exports.”Read more
