New ONS trade data reveals an increase in UK exports

According to new data released last week from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), UK goods exports increased by £2.3 billion (7.4%) in May 2022. This was largely driven by a £1.9 billion (12.7%) increase in exports to non-EU countries. However, exports to the EU also contributed significantly, having reached a record high of £16.9 billion – the highest level of goods exports since 1997.

Increases in exports to the EU were driven by a rise in machinery and transport equipment, while in non-EU countries there was an increase in miscellaneous manufacturers, notably including jewellery exports to Qatar and Switzerland.
