UK starts work on enhanced trade deal with Switzerland
Prime Minister Boris Johnson hosted the Swiss president last week to kick off talks for an enhanced trade deal between the two countries. The trade relationship between the UK and Switzerland is already worth £35 billion annually, but an unprecedented free trade agreement would boost the economy on both sides.
International Trade Secretary, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, said: “A new enhanced trade agreement with Switzerland is a huge opportunity to liberalise trade with our tenth largest trading partner and unlock new opportunities for our world-leading services sector.”
The Department of International Trade has now started an eight-week consultation period, asking for input from businesses and the public ahead of negotiations with Switzerland.Read more
Research finds digitalisation is driving SME growth
Recent research has shown that digitalisation continues to be central for SME business models, even though costs and lack of time are cited as barriers to implementation. Survey results showed that 63% of SMEs find digitalisation useful for revenue growth and 70% find it useful for securing new customers.
What’s more, the study shows that small businesses in the UK are ahead of their European counterparts when it comes to digitalisation. Almost 80% of UK SMEs surveyed had a website, compared with just over half of those asked in France.Learn more
