High street sales see record growth in Spring
The reopening of shops, a sunny June and the Euro 2020 tournament have led to the highest growth on record for high street sales from April to June. Sales were up 28.4% from the previous year, whilst also 10.4% higher than 2019. Figures are also showing that online sales remain much higher than pre-Covid levels, suggesting that the e-commerce shift is here to stay.
During the June sunny spells, fashion and footwear were the purchase of choice, whilst the Euro’s drove sales of TVs, snack foods and beer. Although there are reservations for some shoppers about the rules for mask-wearing and social distancing, high street shops are hoping to see another boost in the summer once lockdown restrictions have been lifted.Read more
