Global exporters join the Northern Powerhouse Partners Programme
New Balance, Hitachi, Playdale and Techbuyer have joined the Northern Powerhouse Partners Programme, a government initiative which brings together 178 businesses from across the North of England.
According to the latest statistics, the Northern Powerhouse is worth over £330 billion a year to the UK economy, with the region supporting around 20 per cent of total UK goods exports – worth £60 billion in 2017.
Northern Powerhouse Minister, Jake Berry, said: “As we seize the opportunities that come with leaving the European Union, it will be the manufacturers of the Northern Powerhouse that will help us deliver a strong and resilient economy fit for the future.”Read more
Minister for Investment in Australia to talk trade
With consultations over future trade relationships with Australia and New Zealand now open, Graham Stuart, Minister for Investment at the Department for International Trade, launched a joint UK-Australian investment report alongside Steven Ciobo, Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment.
The report shows that the investment relationship between the UK and Australia grew by 22 per cent from 2010 to 2017 to more than £630 billion, with combined trade being worth £16 billion in 2018.
Graham Stuart said: “We’ve taken a major step towards building our bilateral trading relationships with Australia and New Zealand – two of our closest international partners – by opening consultations on our potential future agreements.”Learn more
