DIT launches trainee programme for future trade negotiators

Ahead of what the International Trade Secretary has described as a “five-star year for trade”, the second round of the International Trade Development Programme was announced, which will provide first-hand experience to the UK’s aspiring leaders in international trade.

Successful candidates will be placed in top teams within the Department of International Trade, where they will work alongside industry leaders before having the opportunity to work overseas in one of 127 DIT offices across the world.

“We’re looking for highly motivated, talented individuals from different backgrounds who can learn how to design and negotiate first-class deals in the years to come, as the UK leads the way as an independent trading nation,” says Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Secretary of State for International Trade.

According to research, the number of Brits who plan to start their own business in the future has risen to 64% since last year, with some planning to do so as early as this year.

A better work-life balance (47%), choosing what work to do (41.7%) and being their own boss (36.3%) were the most popular responses when asked what drives their entrepreneurial aspirations.
