A great year for DHL Express and British Business

As another year comes to an end, we welcome 2020 with open and optimistic arms. But before the new year gets in full swing, we’re looking back at what an amazing year 2019 was for DHL Express UK.

2019 marked DHL’s landmark 50th birthday and the celebrations did not disappoint. It was also a standout year across the business as we launched new electric courier vans into our UK fleet, and developed our Positive Fashion Initiative. Read about these and many more highlights of the year.

UK exports beyond the EU grow

New figures, released by the Office for National Statistics, show that UK exports to destinations outside of the European Union (EU) grew nearly five times as fast as exports to countries inside the EU in the 12 months to September 2019.

International Trade Secretary, Liz Truss said: “These figures show how big the opportunities are for British businesses exporting across the world, and the strength of the trade relationship with the USA and Japan.”

UK-Japan trade hits record high

Scottish businesses have seen record levels of trade with Japan in the year to September 2019 as UK exports totalled £14.8 billion, up by over 7.6 per cent compared to the previous 12 months.

This has been greatly aided by a growing taste for Scotch whisky, which has seen exports rise to £147.2 million in the 12 months to October 2019, an increase on the previous year of 20.9 per cent.
