15 countries form world’s largest trading bloc

On 15 November, 10 Southeast Asian countries, as well as South Korea, China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, have formed the world’s largest trading bloc, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

The RCEP covers almost a third of the global economy and is seen by some analysts as more significant than the Trans-Pacific Partnership’s (TPP) successor because of its size.

Many leaders hope that the new pact will help aid recovery following the pandemic and longer-term support free-trade amongst members.
