Britain launches negotiations with Pacific free trade area
This week the UK began negotiations to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), a free trade pact involving 11 other countries with a joint GDP of £9 trillion and a population of half a billion people.
Once agreed, joining the CPTPP will mean lower tariffs on British exports such as cars and whisky. It will support UK jobs and provide plenty of opportunities for the farming and professional services industries in the member countries.
UK exports to CPTPP countries is already expected to increase by 65% to £37 billion by 2030. However as a member it is thought this will rise by a further £3.3 billion.Read more
