China’s Singles’ Day on 11 November is the biggest shopping day in the world. The holiday was initially conceived by Chinese university students wishing to celebrate their single status.
In 2009, China’s leading e-commerce marketplace Alibaba began marketing Singles’ Day as a special sales event. Since then, it’s not unusual for sales to reach ten times that of an average shopping day in China. Virtual UK-Taiwan trade talks
UK Trade Policy Minister, Greg Hands, led a virtual visit for the 23rd UK-Taiwan trade talks to champion stronger trade links between the markets. During the talks Minister Hands and Taiwan’s Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs, Chen Chern-Chyi, pledged to build stronger trade and investment links.
Greg Hands said: “We held productive discussions on a number of issues, including ways in which we can lower market access barriers between our economies. I’m pleased that we’ve made good progress on market access issues faced by British businesses in a range of sectors.”Read more
PayPal usage in Europe most popular in the UK
In 2019, PayPal’s smartphone app counted more than 330,000 average daily active users in the United Kingdom, the highest usage in Europe. Germany ranked second with over 312,000 daily users and France in third with more than 96,000.
