British businesses go gold in Japan
With just six months to go until the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the demand for British goods and services among Japanese consumers is soaring, increasing 32 per cent in the last five years.
New figures published by the Office for National Statistics have revealed that the UK’s total exports to Japan reached nearly £15 billion in the year to September 2019. British sporting firms in particular have felt the increase, exporting high-quality equipment to help facilitate the games.Discover more
UK is Scotland’s biggest trading partner
New statistics from the Scottish Government show that more than 50 per cent of all Scottish exports go to England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Scotland’s exports to the EU are worth £16.1 billion, which is less than one third of the value of sales to the rest of the UK.
Commenting on the figures, Scottish Secretary Alister Jack said: “This demonstrates, once again, that our Union is absolutely crucial to supporting jobs, businesses and prosperity across Scotland.”Read more
New digital tools for traders
This week, the Department for International Trade launched two digital tools for businesses exporting goods in and out of the UK market. The tools provide product-specific and country-specific information, making it easier for businesses to trade.
The ‘Trade with the UK’ tool provides businesses exporting goods in and out of the UK with up-to-date information. The ‘Check How to Export Goods’ tool gives those exporting goods out of the UK information on duties and customs procedures for markets around the world.Find out more
