UK trade and investment in 2018
With more businesses than ever seeking expansion opportunities overseas, 2018 was a successful year for trade and investment in the UK.
Total exports reached £626bn with exports to non-EU countries growing to 54.2 per cent. The US remained the UK’s top single export market with exports increasing to £114bn. This follows the Department for International Trade’s ambitious Export Strategy launch, which sought to move exports as a percentage of GDP from 30 per cent to 35 per cent.Learn more
UK welcomes approval of new trade agreement with Japan
A new agreement with Japan will create the world’s largest free trade area, eliminating over 97 per cent of export duties currently in place. The EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) will help boost trade between the UK and Japan, helping to create more jobs in Britain and provide more choice at lower prices for consumers.
International Trade Secretary, Dr Liam Fox, welcomes the benefits that this agreement will bring to both businesses and consumers in Britain. “We will work with the Japanese government to use this agreement as the basis for a new, even stronger partnership after we leave the European Union.”See more
