Spring Statement | BCC Annual Conference | Women in e-commerce

Spring Statement

The first Spring Statement follows the change to a new system with only one Budget and Finance Bill announcement each year, meaning businesses and people face less frequent changes to the tax system, helping to promote certainty and stability.

Chancellor Philip Hammond has said the UK economy is growing at a slightly faster rate than predicted in November and borrowing is down. Growth will be 1.4 per cent this year, 0.1 per cent higher than forecast, with the forecast for 2019 and 2020 unchanged at 1.3 per cent. The Chancellor said there was “light at the end of the tunnel” for the UK economy.

The next revaluation for business rates has been brought forward to 2021 and a review into how to help the least productive businesses catch up with the most, and how to eliminate late payments to small businesses, was also announced.
