|Number of UK entrepreneurs steadily growing
More and more Britons are taking the plunge into self-employment – and as a recent report from the Future Laboratory shows, one of the fastest-growing entrepreneur segments is the 60-plus group.
According to the UK’s Office for National Statistics, one in five over-50s is self-employed and the number of ‘Boomerpreneurs’, which was at 1.7 million in 2013, is expected to reach 2 million by 2020. This group of entrepreneurs also has a high success rate: 70 per cent of start-ups led by over 50s last at least five years.
At the same time, increasing numbers of recent university graduates launch their own businesses.
Overall, the fact that more people in the UK are starting their own business sends the resounding message that economic confidence is continuing to rise, and that the UK is poised for further growth.
