QITO Q1 2017 | Retail sales increased in April | DHL Delivered Magazine

Quarterly International Trade Outlook 2017
Quarterly International Trade Outlook for Q1 2017
The British Chambers of Commerce, in partnership with DHL, has launched its Quarterly International Trade Outlook for Q1 – January to March – 2017. Overall, the findings of the latest QITO report show British businesses are continuing to trade internationally despite political uncertainty. They also have confidence that their turnover and profitability will increase in the coming 12 months.
In his foreword to the report, Ian Wilson, DHL Express UK & Ireland CEO, welcomes the optimistic outlook of UK exporters:
“Despite many unanswered questions about what a post-Brexit Britain will look like, this latest Quarterly International Trade Outlook demonstrates that UK exporters remain optimistic about what the future holds.”

Retail sales in April beat predictions
According to the Office for National Statistics, sales volumes saw an increase of 2.3 per cent in April. This rebound has been received as welcome news after March, when sales saw the biggest drop in seven years. Retailers have pinned the rise to the warm weather experienced in April.
Due to inflation, the amount spent in shops and online was 6.2 per cent higher in the first quarter of 2017 in comparison to a year ago.
