Quarterly International Trade Outlook for Q4 2015

The British Chambers of Commerce and DHL have launched the latest QITO, which demonstrates opportunities and risks for British businesses trading internationally. The document also includes fact sheets for Indonesia, Singapore, Hungary and Romania.

Commenting on the need to increase British exports, Phil Couchman – CEO, DHL Express UK & Ireland – said: “As the UK focuses its efforts on exporting as a way of securing the future of our economy, we will continue to support businesses and ensure that more and more organisations feel comfortable in taking that first step overseas.”

Consumer spending supports economic growth in the USA

The US economy grew at a rate of 1 per cent in Q4 2015, according to the US Department of Commerce. This was a faster pace than the 0.7 per cent originally anticipated. Some forecasters are predicting 2.5 per cent growth for Q1 2016.

Consumer spending accounts for more than two thirds of the country’s economic activity and rose at a rate of 2 per cent in the fourth quarter.

As one of the world’s largest, most international and diversified economies, the US is one of Britain’s key trading partners and an ideal market for British businesses looking to expand abroad.

Mobile becoming key to retail sales
Mobile and e-commerce continue to impact retail sales

51 per cent of online purchases made in the UK between November 2015 and January 2016 were made through smartphones and tablets, according to the IMRG Capgemini Quarterly Benchmarking Report.

In addition, 72 per cent of young shoppers research their in-store purchases online before buying and 71 per cent believe they can find a better deal online.

This means that it’s more important than ever to ensure your website and online store are mobile friendly. If you need advice on improving your online retail strategy, speak to one of our dedicated e-commerce advisors..
