Quarterly International Trade Outlook for Q2 2016

The British Chambers of Commerce, in partnership with DHL, has launched its Quarterly International Trade Outlook for Q2 – April to June – 2016.

The report includes a Trade Confidence Index, which provides insight into the UK’s trade with countries outside the European Union, particularly high growth markets such as Asia and Africa.

There are also fact sheets on trading with South Africa, Morocco, and South Korea. Each one includes information on economics, market opportunities, and Customs tips

Worldwide online retail sales set to grow through to 2020

According to eMarketer, global retail e-commerce sales are set to reach US$1.915 trillion in 2016, accounting for 8.7 per cent of total retail spending worldwide. This figure will grow to US$4 trillion in 2020, making up 14.6 per cent of total retail spending.

Asia-Pacific is expected to remain the world’s largest retail e-commerce market due to greater mobile and internet penetration, improving logistics and infrastructure. The majority of sales are predicted to come from China.

Rise in British exports to China

British exports to China have increased by £2.2 billion since 2014 according to the Department for International Trade (formerly UK Trade & Investment).

Yorkshire and the Humber stood out as an area of opportunity, as exports to China from the region have doubled in the past 10 years.

There are many opportunities in China for British businesses, particularly in the fashion, beauty, automotive, luxury foodstuffs, and information and communications technology sectors.
