New DHL Weekly Trade update | UK economy | DHL’s visit from George Osborne

UK economy projected to expand in 2015
In November 2014, the Confederation of British Industry, one of Britain’s largest business lobbying groups, anticipated the UK economy would grow 2.5 per cent in 2015.

In light of positive economic developments throughout the UK such as low inflation, low interest rates and growing employment, the CBI has now revised its forecast to 2.7 per cent GDP growth in 2015.

The UK was the fastest-growing G7 economy in 2014, this upgraded projection means that Britain is in a strong position to continue to lead the way – developments which will raise the profile of Britain, and thus the popularity of British exports, throughout the world.

New growth for Japan’s economy increases UK exporters’ potential
In 2014, Goldman Sachs financial analysts predicted that Japan was set for growth in 2015 – a projection confirmed by Japan’s recently published growth figures of 2.2 per cent for 2014 Q4.

This is very positive news for British companies who are thinking of selling to this market (or are already doing so): Brand Britain is popular in Japan. Luxury items (including cars and high fashion) as well as food and beverage products from the UK are valued for their quality and strong ties to tradition.

George Osborne visits DHL before announcing long-term economic plan
On 11 February, Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne joined DHL for a tour of our East Midlands Airport hub.

The Chancellor said “‎Our long-term economic plan for the Midlands is all about backing successful businesses and helping them to grow and expand. DHL is a great example of this as a major employer in the Midlands since 1983, helping Britain export to countries around the world.”

The Chancellor joined the Prime Minister at Bombardier in Derby the following day to launch their six-point economic plan to make the midlands an engine for growth.
