Louis Barnett gives exporting advice
“Don’t always look local”

At the British Chambers of Commerce 2015 International Trade Conference, young entrepreneur and chocolatier Louis Barnett gave an overview of how his business has grown and diversified in the past year.

Barnett gave attendees his advice for navigating the export journey to expand globally. He emphasised the importance of building relationships, how to make the most of networking opportunities, using innovation to expand your offering and embracing the Made In Britain label.

We’ve put together the key points from his presentation in our latest blog.

Opportunities for trade with China and India

In another 2015 International Trade Conference session, representatives from the China-Britain Business Council and UK India Business Council gave an overview of China and India as High Growth Markets for businesses looking to expand internationally through exporting.

The countries’ love for British-made products and increasing use of e-commerce platforms gives British businesses enormous opportunities to trade.

Our blog shares why these are such growing markets for British retailers, particularly through online channels, as well as advice for successfully doing business there.

Chamber Awards celebrates the best of British business

The British Chambers of Commerce celebrated the 12th annual Chamber Awards, where some of Britain’s most entrepreneurial companies came together to highlight the role of business in delivering UK growth.

The Export Business of the Year award – sponsored by DHL – went to North East Chamber of Commerce member Advanced Industrial Solutions Ltd (AIS) which manufactures insulation and protective jackets for pipework in the oil, gas and petrochemical sector. Advanced Industrial Solutions Ltd was praised by the judging panel for its impressive growth – increasing turnover three fold over the last three years, with 40% coming from exports. In addition the panel was impressed by the firms’ investment in training and development for staff, both in-house and within their distribution line.
