‘International Trade Profession’ launched | Export to UAE | Demand rises for British products

New ‘International Trade Profession’ launched across Whitehall
On Tuesday 1 May, the government’s Chief Trade Negotiation Adviser, Crawford Falconer, launched the ‘International Trade Profession’. This a great step towards helping UK businesses develop their skills and will support talented people to further develop their careers in international trade.
With ten government departments all appointing a Head of International Trade Profession, the launch shows the government is recognising international trade as one of its most important skills and represents a step forward in post-Brexit trade preparations.

Exporting to the UAE
Traditionally known for its trade in oil, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has developed into a diverse economy bringing a wealth of opportunities for UK businesses looking to expand their exporting activities. High migration levels and an increase in tourism trade has created a mature e-commerce market with smartphones and internet penetration amongst the highest in the world.
The UAE is an important UK partner for regional stability, it is also the UK’s largest civil export market in the Middle East. More than 5,000 British companies are currently operating in the UAE and the country is home to 120,000 British expatriates.
Royal wedding increases demand for British products
With a little over a week to go before Harry and Meghan say ‘I do’, the interest for all things British can hardly be higher. The love for ‘Brand Britain’ is a great opportunity for exporters to sell their British products to overseas markets.
The UK has a great international brand, with its heritage, distinct character and reputation for quality. Certain markets are more receptive of British products, with Japan, China and the US all responding well to different aspects of Britishness.
