International Trade Conference | Entrepreneurs upbeat | Exports boost UK growth

British Chambers of Commerce International Trade Conference

The BCC’s fourth annual International Trade Conference – Trade the World, Accessing High Growth Markets – will be held on 3 November 2015.

As one of the leading national business and exporting conferences, it’s a key event for UK businesses looking to expand overseas and network with other professionals. There will be a number of keynote speakers and panelists, including business and political leaders, entrepreneurs and other thought leaders.

DHL Express UK will be sponsoring the event and Neil Kuschel, VP Sales, DHL Express, will be running a panel session entitled ‘Global brands – Strength of Made In Britain’.

Entrepreneurs upbeat about future growth

In a recent survey which highlighted the strong performance of small businesses in the UK, EY found that 90 per cent of entrepreneurs were confident about profit increases in the next three years. 93 per cent also hope to employ more people in the next year.

“SMEs are the backbone of the UK economy and, according to our survey, one of its healthiest sectors,” said Steve Wilkinson, EY market leader in the UK and Ireland.

31 per cent of entrepreneurs surveys were in favour of the government giving more control to local government. Devolution of powers could make decision-making and planning faster for some SMEs, further encouraging future growth.

Exports could support UK productivity growth

A new report from TheCityUK suggests that helping SMEs to increase their export activities could boost the UK economy and “solve the UK’s productivity puzzle”.

The report outlined a number of proposals, including private sector innovation, a dedicated user-friendly website and helping SMEs better navigate the changing landscape for trade-related products.

“Better assistance for SMEs that aspire to be exporters or to become more sophisticated exporters is ultimately in their – and the UK’s – long term national interest, boosting productivity, creating jobs and delivering long-term economic growth,” said Chris Cummings, Chief Executive, TheCityUK.
