Exports in British food and drink worth £19 billion per year and growing

According to the Institute of Export, Britain’s food and drink export industry is now worth £19 billion a year, with 2,500 UK companies selling their products to 150 countries around the world.

In terms of specific products, UK exports of tea to China increased 30 per cent (in terms of volume) in 2014, and exports of English and Welsh wine are on course to reach more than £100m this year.

In export news beyond food and drink, a survey by Western Union revealed that a quarter of British SMEs’ revenue comes from exports – and more than a third of the businesses surveyed said they are confident their international activity will further increase.

Qatar’s economic outlook highly positive for 2015

A recent report from Qatar National Bank Group projects that the country’s economy is set for further growth in 2015.

Qatar, which has the world’s highest per capita GDP, is already the UK’s third-largest export market in the Middle East and has a strong Anglophile customer base. The country’s non-hydrocarbon sector is now the main driver of economic growth, contributing 50.7 percent of Qatar’s GDP in Q3 2014. Qatar’s GDP growth reached 6.0 percent in 2014 and is predicted to expand to 7.7 per cent in 2015.
