On 1 November 2016, the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) hosted its Global Business Network Live conference.

Speakers highlighted the trade support available to British businesses; BCC Director General Adam Marshall called on the government to help traders get even closer to international customers.

The event also addressed the uncertainty surrounding the EU Referendum, though it became clear that many British businesses are optimistic about the UK’s economic future.

UK SMEs call for improved trade support
After surveying more than 1,000 SMEs, HSBC published the report ‘Exporting for Growth: The SME perspective’.
According to the findings, 73 per cent of prospective exporters consider themselves hampered by limited international business experience. Only 45 per cent of the businesses surveyed consider international trade “important for the growth of their business.”

German online retail to reach €73.3 billion by 2020

Germany’s e-commerce market is set for ongoing growth and is due to account for 15 per cent of the country’s total retail by 2020.

Fashion and consumer electronics are the highest-grossing sectors in terms of online retail, which means there are huge opportunities for British businesses looking to expand their trade to Germany.

Online home and furnishing retail is also growing while FMCG e-commerce has the smallest market share in Germany.
