Exporting is GREAT | UK SMEs unfazed by ‘Brexit’ | Trading with South East Asia

UKTI Export Week
Introducing Exporting is GREAT

As part of UK Trade & Investment’s Export Week (9-13 November), the British government launched its latest initiative to support UK businesses trading internationally.

Under the banner Exporting is GREAT, the five-year campaign aims to inspire at least 100,000 more British businesses to become exporters, and provides extensive practical advice – including a new website which lists current market-specific opportunities. UKTI has also created a group of country-focussed YouTube videos, giving examples of where a need for British products exists.

UK SME owners unperturbed by possibility of ‘Brexit’

YouGov recently polled 1,000 SMEs on how they might be affected by Britain leaving the European Union.

70 per cent of British business owners stated this would have “no effect on their business planning.” Eight per cent said that the debate had a major effect on their strategies, whilst 18 per cent said the impact was only minor.

The survey was revealed at the Telegraph Festival of Business, which also polled its attendees on the day. 75 per cent of audience members said they would stay in the EU if they were asked to vote in the referendum the next day.

Southeast Asia providing great export opportunities
Southeast Asia: A promising market for trade

At the British Chamber of Commerce 2015 International Trade Conference, representatives from the UK-ASEAN Business Council and BritCham Indonesia shared opportunities for trade in Southeast Asia – one of the fastest growing consumer markets in the world.

The Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) includes Brunei Darussalam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It’s a diverse region with a rich history of trade and plenty of export opportunities for British businesses in sectors such as infrastructure and construction.
