Europe set for strong growth | Trade with UAE | UK is the e-commerce leader

Britain trading with EU
Strong European economic growth anticipated for 2016

Following a positive economic performance in 2015, this year has been predicted as the strongest for growth across the European Union since 2007.

The economies of Northern Europe, led by Germany and the UK, and Eastern Europe, are particular areas of “consistent strength and resilience.” In addition, southern Europe’s economic performance has also improved, with Spain seeing the most significant growth increase.

Trading with the EU is generally very straightforward for British businesses, as standardised trading practices and regulations commonly apply throughout the region.

United Arab Emirates becomes global trade hub

After ten years of exceptional growth in Dubai, the UAE has emerged as “the global hub in trade and logistics” according to recent reports.

Between January and September 2015, Dubai’s non-oil foreign trade was worth AED 966 billion: “the foreign trade sector… has positioned Dubai as a leading global and regional trading and business hotspot,” said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), and Chairman of DP World.

Free Trade Zones make the UAE an attractive destination and regional hub for international companies to expand.

E-commerce presents opportunities for British businesses to expand

According to Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google parent company Alphabet, “Britain is the leader in e-commerce in the world, far ahead of the United States.”

Schmidt advised that UK businesses with a quality product should take advantage of Britain’s regulatory environment to succeed internationally. He added that start-ups and small businesses can use online retail to compete with more established larger companies.

At DHL, we understand the challenges of e-commerce and are already helping many leading retailers grow their international online sales.
