Dr Fox on free trade | Australia-UK Trade | QITO Q4 2017

Dr Liam Fox calls for optimism on free trade
On Monday 30 April, International Trade Secretary and President of the Board of Trade, Dr Liam Fox, gave a speech at the Speaker’s House calling for people across the country to be bold and optimistic in promoting the benefits of free trade.
Through this specific address in Parliament, Dr Fox asked colleagues to show leadership and to make a case for a liberalised, global trading system that would allow future generations to benefit: “It is not only our democratic duty but our responsibility for the generations to come to build the case for free trade.”

Australia-UK Trade Working Group meets
Senior officials from the UK’s Department of International Trade (DIT) and Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) recently met to discuss how Australia and the UK can deepen their existing trade and investment relationship.
This was the third time the Trade Working Group has met since September 2016, when it was established to expedite the transition to free trade negotiations when the UK has formally completed its negotiations to exit the EU.
Discussions ranged across a number of topics, which included helping to build an understanding of both countries’ approaches and ambitions for the future bilateral trade and investment relationship.
Quarterly International Trade Outlook for Q4 2017
The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), in partnership with DHL, has produced its Quarterly International Trade Outlook (QITO) for Q4 – October to December – 2017.
The findings of the latest QITO report shows that in the manufacturing sector, export sales and orders remain stable, but in the services sector, the final quarter of 2017 slowed slightly.
In his foreword to the report, Ian Wilson, DHL Express UK & Ireland CEO, said that DHL customers are experiencing positive growth in line with manufacturers: “The positive response from manufacturers is in line with what we are seeing from our customers, especially those in the e-commerce arena, who are growing quickly and looking to markets further afield to counterbalance the uncertainty surrounding Brexit.”
