DHL’s helicopter delivery service | China | DHL Express UK on LinkedIn

Faster US-London delivery connections with the DHL Helicopter Service

To expedite international delivery of time-sensitive items such as business documents, DHL has introduced a groundbreaking next day service from key US financial centres – New York, Boston and Chicago – to central London.

With the Helicopter Service, which was launched at an event at OXO Tower in central London yesterday, documents picked up at the end of the business day in New York, Boston and Chicago, will be flown (by plane) into Heathrow before 10 am the next morning. From there, the DHL helicopter – London’s first-ever helicopter delivery service – connects to Canary Wharf Heliport, where DHL couriers then distribute the letters and packages.

Positive developments for reaching China through e-commerce

According to research company eMarketer, China is set to become the world’s largest e-commerce market ahead of the US and the UK: by 2018, the country is due to account for more than 40 per cent of global Internet retail and exceed US$ 1 trillion in sales.

This is largely due to the consuming patterns of China’s population: in the US, only 6.5 per cent of sales came from online retail in 2014 despite 63 per cent of the population having made an online purchase. In China, however, more than 10 per cent of sales come from the Internet in 2014 although only 27.5 per cent of the population bought online.

There is more promising e-commerce news in China; the country’s government launched a pilot scheme in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone (FTZ) under which non-Chinese companies are now allowed to fully own and operate e-commerce businesses – “a significant opportunity” for foreign e-commerce firms due to the large size of the Chinese consumer market according to Rajiv Biswas, Asia-Pacific chief economist at HIS .
