Continued UK growth and Brand Britain strong in Saudi Arabia

CBI: Positive outlook for Britain’s economy

According to the latest ‘Growth Indicator’ report from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), Britain’s economy expanded a steady 0.7 per cent from January to March 2015.

CBI, one of the UK’s largest business lobbying organisations, gathered this data by reviewing more than 750 businesses operating across multiple sectors.

Growth in distribution and consumer services was especially strong. Although the pound’s current strong performance may impact exports, CBI Deputy Director General Katja Hall is optimistic about the UK’s economic state and outlook: “a solid start to the year with the prospect of stronger growth to come.”

Saudi Arabia’s megacities gain traction

Saudi Arabia is the largest economy in the Middle East and the World Bank forecasts more than 4 per cent annual GDP growth until 2017.

To reduce Saudi Arabia’s dependence on oil and gas, many diversification projects are underway – such as the construction of industrial and economic cities.

The most prominent of these projects is King Abdullah Economic City, which will feature one of the world’s largest and most modern ports. Click here to read more.

British companies are in a uniquely strong position to do business with Saudi Arabia: Brand Britain has a positive reputation and the country is already the UK’s largest trading partner in the Middle East.

DHL and Movement to Work: Our traineeships

Movement to Work is a collaboration of British employers who provide training and work experience for young people – an important project as more than 760,000 young people in the UK are currently not in education, employment or training.

As part of the initiative, DHL is offering 430 traineeships to young people aged 18 to 24 this year. In a six-week programme, the trainees will be immersed in several core logistics areas through a combination of work experience and classroom learning. 215 of the candidates will have the chance to join DHL’s apprenticeship scheme to further develop their career skills.
