CIVETS economies update | Brazil | London Fashion Week

Where are the CIVETS today?

Earlier this month, we took a closer look at the BRIC economies – Brazil, Russia, India and China – to see if these countries still have the potential to dominate the world economy by 2050. Now, we’re turning our attention to the CIVETS (Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey and South Africa), which in 2009 were identified as ‘a new group of emerging market dynamos’ due to their large, young and growing populations, diverse and dynamic economies, and (comparative) political stability . But the last five years have seen significant political and economic changes in these countries – so are they still promising markets for British businesses looking to expand further?

Click here to read our review of where the CIVETS stand now, and what this means for international traders.

Boost your business in Brazil

If you’re looking to expand your business to Latin America, look at Brazil as your natural starting point. The country isn’t just Latin America’s largest economy – it’s also the region’s largest port and point of entry for the majority of exports from Europe.

Britain has a long-standing political and economic relationship with Brazil, and the country is the UK’s largest trade partner in Latin America. Even though Brazil’s spectacular economic growth has somewhat slowed down over the last years, the country still offers a multitude of opportunities for British businesses – for example, don’t forget that the Olympic Games are coming to Rio in 2016.
