On Thursday 28 December organisations of all sizes joined together for the Chamber Business Awards, one of the UK’s most contested and prestigious business award programmes.
Hosted by the British Chambers of Commerce, businesses from all over the UK compete for the coveted titles and the national recognition they bring. Now in its 16th year, the Chamber Awards highlights the role of business in delivering growth and prosperity for the UK and local communities. At DHL Express, we were incredibly proud to sponsor two awards this year: Export Business of the Year and E-commerce Business of the Year.
Export Business of the Year
The Export Business of the Year 2019 award went to ATG Access, a vehicle barrier company based in St Helens. The business exports around the globe to 42 countries and over the last three years has secured distribution agreements in Germany, France, Spain, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, China, Turkey and Japan. This has contributed to the 47 per cent growth that the company has seen over the last 36 months. International sales now make up more than 50 per cent of ATG’s total turnover.
Shannon Diett, Vice President of Marketing at DHL Express, commented on the relationship DHL Express has with its exporting customers and was very pleased to recognise the winner of this particular award, saying: “We work closely with our customers to help them harness their export potential, so I’m delighted to celebrate the achievements of ATG Access. They blend innovation and ambition to great effect, and I look forward to seeing them continue to go from strength to strength!”
E-commerce Business of the Year
The Chamber Business Awards introduced a new category for 2019 highlighting the importance of e-commerce businesses in the UK as a driving force within the British economy. Proudly sponsored by DHL Express, the aim of the E-commerce Business of the Yearaward is to recognise the strength and creativity of Britain’s e-commerce businesses as well as the resilience required for the fast paced nature of doing business online. The judges were looking to award the title to a business that has delivered an outstanding online customer journey, showing responsiveness to customers’ needs, with the business results and growth to match.
E-commerce Business of the Year went to shoes, accessories and leather goods manufacturer Baker Shoes Ltd. The judges praised the firm’s online e-commerce strategy, focusing on improving customer experience and broadening the brand’s appeal. With online accounts growing to 35,000, this traditional business sees the online market as an exciting opportunity.
“Barker Shoes has demonstrated a clear and creative growth strategy through e-commerce with customer needs at its core. Insightful analytic tools and an exceptional end-to-end purchasing experience has created an outstanding and seamless online customer journey,” commented Sarah Howard, Chair of the British Chambers of Commerce.
With an evening full of celebrating the strength and success of business across the UK, the British Chambers of Commerce continue to provide businesses with opportunities to connect potential customers, peers and parliamentarians. We are delighted to recognise the winners of the two awards we sponsor at the event and wish all finalists and winners the very best as they continue in their business journeys.
