‘A business plan for Britain’: British Chambers 2015 Conference

The British Chambers of Commerce Annual Conference (BCC), which took place in London on Tuesday, 10 February, provided a platform for politicians, entrepreneurs, business leaders and policy shapers to share their visions on the future of Britain’s business landscape.

BCC Director General John Longworth introduced the BCC manifesto, ‘A business plan for Britain’ – while the most anticipated speaker of the day was Prime Minister David Cameron, who urged business leaders to boost Britain’s economy by increasing wages and outlined his plans to protect the economy.

Our own CEO Phil Couchman gave an insight into DHL’s global success strategy in a speech accompanied by our new video – DHL: A truly global company.

Driving trade with Poland

A recurrent theme emphasised throughout the BCC Annual Conference is the huge appetite for ‘Brand Britain’ across the world. This was especially clear in the panel discussion ‘Doing business with the world’, where two ambassadors to the UK – Poland’s Witold Sobkow and Colombia’s Nestor Osorio – debated the state and future of Britain’s economy and trade prospects with journalists Linda Yueh and Martin Wolf.

Sobkow emphasised that Poland is highly invested in Britain – “The UK is our second-largest trade partner” – and referenced the “long list of British companies who have successfully invested in Poland”, from large conglomerates to SMEs. With the large number of consumers in Poland who closely follow British political and economic developments, and who value British products for their high quality and reputation, this high-growth market provides an ideal platform for British companies looking to expand their trade.

Supporting our customers: DHL’s partnership with British Chambers

DHL works with the BCC as part of our mission to help British businesses navigate every part of the going global journey. BCC is an independent business network representing the interests of thousands of businesses across the UK and helps businesses understand and tackle the opportunities which exporting and importing can offer.

In addition to working with BCC on high-profile events, such as the BCC Annual Conference and International Trade Conference, we co-publish the Quarterly International Trade Outlook. The document, ‘QITO’, measures the UK’s exporting health with a focus on trade and country snapshots – all to give British businesses an even better understanding of international opportunities.
