Autumn Statement details further support for SMEs and exporters

Yesterday, Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne gave his annual Autumn Statement to Parliament: an update on the British government’s plans for the economy based on the latest forecasts from the Office for Budget Responsibility.

Overall, the Autumn Statement brought very positive news – such as confirming that Britain’s economy is the fastest-growing G7. Most importantly, Osborne pledged £45 million to support exporters and SMEs who want to start trading internationally through a range of projects such as making it easier for British businesses to attend global trade shows and modernising UK Export Finance.

Augment your trade with Austria

Austria is Europe’s secret superstar; the country has registered economic growth every year since 2009, unemployment and inequality are low and Vienna has been ranked as having the world’s highest quality of life.

Austria’s economy is extremely open and many of the country’s successful ‘Mittelstand’ companies (SMEs) are active on a global scale. The country’s geostrategic position (and strong historical ties) to the newer Central and Eastern European EU members also means hundreds of international companies and organisations are using Austria as a vantage point for accessing this high-growth region.

Spotlight on the 2014 Chamber Awards winners

On 27 November, more than 550 people came to the Tower of London to attend the 2014 Chamber Awards.

80 businesses – the regional Chamber Award winners – were in the running for the nine award categories. DHL Express sponsored ‘Achievement in International Business’, and we’re delighted to announce that North East Chamber of Commerce member A-Belco, an electrical and mechanical engineering provider, received this award for their outstanding achievements in exploring and entering new markets. Origin Broadband, a member of the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce, was awarded ‘Business of the Year’ and the accompanying £10,000 cash reward.
